March 03, 2015

Happy March everyone!  We’re dreaming of warm weather and spring flowers to come — but we have a feeling it’ll be a long few weeks before we get there… however we’ve discovered the perfect place to get warmed up and ready for spring; enter: Sky Zone Toronto!

We’re always interested in finding places we can get active with our little ones, and it’s rare to find a fitness centre that accommodates children with specific programming. If this is something you and your family need, look no further than the world’s first indoor trampoline park: the inventors of “fun fitness”!

The Toronto location opened in March of 2013, and offers open jump, a SkySlam court, SkyRobics fitness classes, Ultimate Dodgeball and Foam Zone. For just about any age, shape or size, Sky Zone Toronto is the ultimate 3-D play experience – fun for the whole family!

Read on to our Q&A to learn more about this one-of-a-kind fun fitness centre!

LPG: What is the story behind Sky Zone? When did it open in Toronto?

SZT: Sky Zone was originally intended to be a new sport involving trampolines.  In 2004, Rick Platt (founder) created a trampoline arena in Las Vegas which included trampolines and rotating hoops. The sport failed to generate interest, but local fitness enthusiasts, skateboarders, and other sports-extremist came knocking on Rick Platt’s door begging for entry.  Fast forward a few years later, and the first Sky Zone Franchise opened in Boston, Massachusetts.

Sky Zone started in Toronto when Caroline Irving (owner) went to Boston to visit her sister-in-law who is the Franchiser of Sky Zone in Boston.  She was immediately wowed by the facility, and the mom in her knew a trampoline park is exactly what the GTA needed.  The first Canadian location opened in Mississauga in November, 2011 and the Toronto location in March, 2013.  The newest Canadian located has recently open in Vaughan in November 2014.
